What:   Truckee Town Council Meeting

Why:    Town Council will consider revisions of Ordinance 2012–06 regarding aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention to make it a multi-species ordinance and to approve a mandatory watercraft inspection program for Donner Lake. Public comment will be accepted.

When:   January 14, 2014, 6pm – 10pm

Where:  Truckee Town Hall, 10183 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee, CA 96161

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District and Truckee River Watershed Council recommend implementation of mandatory watercraft inspections at Donner Lake to prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species (AIS).

For aquatic invasive species prevention to continue in Truckee, we need supporters of AIS prevention to publicly affirm their commitment at the January 14th Town Council meeting. We request and encourage you to express your support for AIS prevention by offering public comment during the Town Council meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, a letter to Town Council is strongly encouraged. We would like public comment in support of AIS prevention from 24 – 36 community members.

Here are talking points to consider when commenting on AIS prevention:

  • Threats posed to our water bodies by AIS
  • Prevention is most effective approach to protecting water bodies from AIS
  • Economic and environmental impacts if infestation occurs
  • Support of Town’s commitment to AIS prevention via a mandatory inspection program

The proposed ordinance revisions will be available as part of the Town Council board packet a few days prior to the meeting. We will send a link to the revised ordinance and a reminder about the meeting. UPDATE 1/13/14: Please click here to view the agenda.
