TRWC Executive Director Lisa Wallace (at right) shares the dappled sunshine with good friends Joan, Russ and Katy Jones of the Truckee River Winery. What makes this so special? Well, of course you get a glass of wine and appetizers. But more importantly, you will be amongst friends – a group of like-minded folks who love the watershed and want to take care of it.

The Truckee River Winery is one of these friends. Owners Joan and Russ Jones and their daughter Katy are some of our strongest supporters. They have been to almost EVERY Truckee River Day since it started in 1996 – almost 17 years! In fact, they believe in our work so much that they bring the winery staff every year, and it is a PAID work day spreading seeds and planting willow waddles.

The Winery is also a member of our Together for the Truckee Society, pledging at least $1,000 a year for 5 years to support our work for the watershed. And a few years ago, they initiated a program they call “Give to the River”. This program collects a voluntary $1 donation for each bottle of wine you purchase from the Truckee River Winery, and proceeds support the Truckee River Watershed Council.

Joan says, “I have a lifelong love affair with the Truckee River watershed, and living here gave me a deep appreciation for preserving and improving the environment I love and cherish.” Joan is very active in our community, and choses time and again to work with the Truckee River Watershed Council. “What I love the most is that this group gets things done. Projects like Perazzo Meadows, Coldstream Canyon, and Pole Creek.”

But Joan is not ready to sit back on her laurels. That is why the Jones’ and the Winery continue their support of the Truckee River Watershed Council. “The work is not complete. We have a lot more to do.”

Thanks Joan, Russ, Katy, and all the staff of the Truckee River Winery. Together, we are ready to tackle the next set of projects!

The Watershed Council looks forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 19th at the Truckee River Winery!
