by Kathy Whitlow, Operations Manager

Truckee River Winery has 10 local and diverse artists participating in their Cask as Canvas competition this year. Many of the casks are being auctioned off to benefit local charities, including this week’s premier of a wine barrel painted by Sara Smith and TRWC’s Kathy Whitlow to benefit the Truckee River Watershed Council.

Join us Wednesday, September 25th at the Truckee River Winery. The artist showcase will be from 5-7 pm with the unveiling at 6 pm. Click here for more information.

Smith is a long time local and professional artist specializing in illustration, commission, and large murals. Examples of her work to view locally are at the Truckee Elementary school lobby, KidZone Museum, the Incline Library and our own 2012 Truckee River Day T-shirt. This is her second year participating in Cask as Canvas. Kathy has worked at the Truckee River Watershed Council since 2012 and has worked with Sara in the past on mural projects. Sara and Kathy both enjoy exploring the Truckee River watershed; it was an easy decision to choose TRWC as their charity of choice!

Artist showcases have begun this month, and the barrels and other works of art will be on display through out September and October. On October 5th, the Winery will begin their silent auction, which will continue until their Anniversary party in mid-October.

Come out for a glass of wine and to view our barrel for the first time this Wednesday evening. If we miss you Wednesday, stop by the Winery to view all the barrels, participate in the silent auction and vote for your favorite for the People’s Choice award. Truckee River Winery is located at 11467 Brockway Road in Truckee.
