The Truckee River Watershed Council is offering homeowners a free workshop on its River-Friendly Landscaping (RFL) and Weed Warriors programs. The workshop will be at the Truckee Community Garden at the Truckee River Regional Park on Tuesday, July 30th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The workshop is for homeowners, but anyone is welcome to attend, including landscape architects, landscapers, nursery, and maintenance personnel! Join us to learn how RFL helps homeowners prevent or reduce soil erosion from area residential properties, a major source of pollution in our area streams and the Truckee River. There will also be a Weed Warriors weed identification workshop where participants can learn about identification, management and reporting of non-native, invasive plants in the watershed.
“Having over 40 people who work in the watershed attend the first workshop in April was amazing,” says Lisa Wallace, Executive Director of TRWC. “We really love how engaged our entire community is in helping the Watershed Council protect and restore our watershed.”

About River-Friendly Landscaping TRWC’s River-Friendly Landscaping program helps Truckee-area homeowners understand how soil erosion from their properties adversely affects the Truckee River watershed, providing site evaluations, site plans and assistance for homeowners to install erosion control measures. Qualifying homeowners can receive up to $1000 in reimbursement for labor and material costs until all rebate funds are exhausted. To join in the effort, call (530) 550-8760, ext. 3.
Funding for River-Friendly Landcaping has been provided in full or in part through the California State Water Resources Control Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under the Federal Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program (Clean Water Act Section 319).
About Weed Warriors TRWC’s Weed Warriors work to prevent and control the spread of non-native invasive plants in the Truckee River watershed. Following the principle of “Early Detection, Rapid Response,” we educate the community, report occurrences to weed-management authorities, and organize work parties to enhance native habitats.
