The Truckee River Watershed Council is excited to announce the winners of their River-Friendly Landscaping program. Susie Urie, Steve Ramos and Eric Premack each won a $5,000 rebate and Donner Pines East won a $10,000 rebate for completed river-friendly landscaping soil erosion measures.
The River-Friendly landscaping contest began in September 2011 with the objective to restore residential properties with significant erosion problems near rivers and streams in Truckee. Residents were asked to fill out an application and submit photos. Ten Truckee-area residents applied.
Even if you are not one of the winners there is still an opportunity participate in the River-Friendly Landscaping program. By signing up, homeowners will receive a custom site evaluation and plan as well as up to $400 rebate.

The River Friendly Landscaping program helps Truckee-area homeowners understand how soil erosion from their properties adversely affects the Truckee River watershed.
River Friendly Landscaping improves water quality by assisting residential property owners in voluntarily reducing or preventing soil erosion. It covers older and established neighborhoods in the Truckee River watershed within the Town of Truckee, Placer County, Nevada County, and within other related counties in California.
This program is voluntary. We provide free site evaluations, site plans and assistance for homeowners. To join in the effort, simply call (530) 550-8760, ext. 3 and or sign up online. We will arrange to meet with homeowners and provide a free site evaluation.
AfterAs an added incentive homeowners can receive up to $400 in reimbursement for labor and material costs, while available.
Homeowners are eligible to receive the complimentary full-color guide to landscaping in the Sierra Nevada, the Yard and Garden Guide. Published by the Sierra Nevada Alliance, the 160-page manual offers great landscaping inspiration with dozens of photographs and how-to tips. Also available is an informative booklet: “Invasive Weeds of the Tahoe National Forest.”
