Last week Beth Christman, Director of Restoration Programs, co-led a tour of our Perazzo Meadows restoration project for the California chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration.
Two phases of the Perazzo Meadows Restoration project are completed. For the next few years, we will be monitoring groundwater, stream flows and stream temperatures. The results of the monitoring will inform the final design of the remaining restoration work.
Preliminary results show that water is spreading across the meadows, while stream flows remain at historic levels. Stream temperatures are decreasing. This initial data supports the goals of the project which include re-watering the meadow surface, improving adjoining wetland habitat, moving flows to vegetated channels to eliminate eroding stream banks and improving fish habitat.
