Truckee River Tour
8th Annual Professional Education Tour. April 15-16, 2010. The Watershed Council is one of the stops on the tour.
Sponsored by Nevada Water Resources Association. The Tour qualifies for 15 hours of continuing education credit for engineers, and water right surveyors.
From Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, the Truckee River flows just over one hundred miles and is a microcosm of Western water issues. Life blood of northwestern Nevada, the Truckee River is rich in history and controversy. Stakeholders on the River include cities, farmers, wetlands, endangered fish, Native Americans, two states and the federal government.
This two-day field study course will cover hydrology, water quality deterioration and remediation, endangered species, water flow regulation under the Orr Ditch Decree and Truckee River Agreement, hydropower generation, channel restoration, flood control planning, legal issues, negotiated solutions, and the future of the Truckee River under the Truckee River Operation Agreement (TROA).
On the second day, the tour stops in Truckee and features the restoration projects of the Truckee River Watershed Council.
